Models Prefer Mattifying Primer Review

When I ran out of my holy grail make up primer, Benefit's POREfessional, I tried to find a cheaper, more accessible alternative. I know that Benefit's POREfessional IS accessible here in Australia but it's sold for $23.00 more than our US friends pay and that just really annoys me. Anyway, I was browsing the aisles of Priceline and, when I saw that this primer was marketed as a mattifying primer, I thought it would be perfect and quickly picked one up!
To see what I think of this primer, keep reading!

Firstly, this primer is exactly what I expected it to be. With the main ingredient of dimethicone (which is essentially cosmetic silicone), this primer is very smoothing. I'm a big fan of silicone based primers as I find them to be the best for my skin type, making foundation application a breeze and controlling oil and shine.

Whilst I find that this primer goes on very smooth, I think that it's possibly a little too smooth. When too much of this product is applied (I tend to use about half a pump as a little goes a long way), I feel that it makes my skin feel quite slick. Slick isn't the best word I could use to describe it, to be honest, but it's the only one I can really think of to describe the feeling.

In terms of oil control, unfortunately I don't think this primer extends the wear of my make  up the way I would expect a primer to. With the Models Prefer Mattifying Primer I find my foundation and overall make up wears better than it would with no primer at all, but definitely not as long as it can with other primers. I probably get about 5-7 hours wear with this product before I feel like my face is starting to fall away. Whilst that might be okay with some people, on a workday I'm usually out the door by 7am and not home again until 6pm. I need long wearing!

For me, the proof is really in the the mattifying. This primer mattifies my skin well but, once again, not as well as I would like. I find I get approximately 3 hours wear out of my make up before I need to blot. Not only do I look like I need to blot, I also feel like I need to. Again, when you're out of the house for up to 12 hours at a time, you need to be confident that you're not going to be a grease ball.

One of the favourite things about this primer is the packaging. I find the pump to be so practical and easy to use, making getting ready in the mornings so much easier. It's also really easy to control the amount of product that comes out in a pump meaning little goes to waste. Phew!

All in all, I'm not happy, nor am I disappointed, by this product. Unfortunately it's not as mattifying as I would like but I think it may work well for some people. I wouldn't recommend it to people who identify as having oily skin but, at only $14.99 a bottle from Priceline, I think it would be a great way for someone to familiarise themselves with silicone based primers.

Have you tried this primer? What did you think of it? What's your favourite foundation primer and how do you keep your make up on all day?! Tips needed!

Always look your best,
Sophie
